Public Review of the Community Services Block Grant Proposal

Central KY Community Action Council, Inc. is holding a public review of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) proposal. The proposal is prepared annually by Central KY Community Action Council, Inc. and is submitted to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Community Action Kentucky. It describes Central KY Community Action’s plan for the use of the funds in the Central KY Community Action’s services area, which includes agency capacity building, civic engagement and community involvement, employment, education & cognitive development, income/infrastructure/asset building, health & social/behavioral development, housing, linkages, and services supporting multiple domains. It also includes the results of the local community needs assessment. The proposal will be available on Central KY Community Action’s website (www.ckcac.org) on 5/28/2020. LIHEAP Spring Now Available

Central KY Community Action Council, Inc. has started taking applications for the Spring Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This agency covers Marion, Washington, Hardin, Meade, Grayson, Breckinridge, Larue and Nelson Counties. Applications will be accepted through June 30, 2020, or until designated funds are depleted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The program, which is designed to help low-income households offset home energy costs, has increased income eligibility requirements to 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The benefit amount awarded is based on an individual’s income and primary fuel type. Benefits are paid directly to the primary fuel vendor in the form of a voucher.

All applicants will be required to supply the following documentation at time of application: Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence card (Green Card) for each member of the household, proof of all household’s (all members) income from the preceding month, the most current heating bill, statement from your landlord if heating expenses are included in your rent, statement from utility company if you participate in a Pre -Pay Electric Program and the account number and name on the account for main heating fuel sources and electric bill.

Central Kentucky Community Action Council administers LIHEAP in partnership with the Community Action Kentucky and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services who receive the funding as a pass-through block grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services .

Marion County Heartland Safe Community Coalition Scholarship for Drug-Free Youth

You are eligible to apply for the Marion County Heartland Safe Community Coalition $500 Scholarship for Drug-Free Youth.

Who can apply for the Scholarship for Drug-Free Youth?

  • College bound high school seniors who have never used alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other illegal drug and who have promoted drug-free lifestyle.
  • An applicant must be a high school senior in Marion County.

How do interested students apply?

  • Obtain an application from school counselor
  • Complete the application form and attach a short essay
  • Mail the completed application to Marion County Health Center

When is the application due?

  • The completed application must be received no later than May 4, 2020
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

How will applicants know who is awarded the scholarship?

  • The selection committee will notify the student’s high school and the award recipient

Scholarship Opportunity

While graduating students are at home, contact your local Community Action Office for a scholarship application.

Central Kentucky Community Action will again offer Educational Awards for graduating High School Seniors and GED recipients in our eight county service area.

These Educational Awards will be given in the form of Scholarships to assist with tuition while attending a four-year college, a two-year college, or a technical school.

Anyone applying for these scholarships must first meet the federal low-income guidelines. Preference will be given to graduating Seniors going into the fields of Social Services, Business, Agriculture, or Education, in that order. Students’ grade point average will also be taken into consideration.

The Scholarship packets are available at local High Schools, Vocational Schools, and at your local County Community Action Office.

Garden Program

Eligible households will receive a $30 voucher to buy seeds, plants and fertilizer from a local vendor to build a garden at their home. This program will last from April 15th-June 12th, or until funds are exhausted.
